About Matlock
Matlock and Matlock Bath lie just outside the Peak
District National Park, but Matlock is an important
centre and the county town of Derbyshire.
The Romans are thought to have mined lead here but
the town was relatively unimportant until the early
19th century, when it developed rapidly as a spa.
The Midland Railway brought further prosperity in
the latter half of the century before the spa declined.
About Matlock Bath Matlock Bath is a wonderful historic
village in the Derbyshire Peak District – a
mecca for photographers – and offering many
attractions from museums to amusements! Matlock Bath
even has a cable car to take you up to the famous
Heights of Abraham for a wonderful view. The village
of Matlock Bath has been under conservation area rules
for many years and many of its building are in a reasonable
state of preservation. Set in a steep-sided gorge,
its aspect is breathtaking and was a health spa in
Georgian and Victorian times. Nowadays, Matlock Bath
attracts a wide range of visitors and the mood changes
constantly throughout the year. In the Autumn there
are the famous 'Venetian Nights', which include illuminations
and fireworks. There is genuinely something for everyone
in Matlock Bath, so find the time to come and see
it for yourself.
